Human Technopole is a new interdisciplinary research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, whose aim is to develop innovative strategies to promote human health and aging through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genomics, neuroscience, structural biology, computational and data science.

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Senior Manager of gene editing pipelines to join the Automated Stem Cell and Organoid Facility (ASCOF). The aim of the Facility is to enable patient-specific iPSC-based disease modelling at scale by automatizing reprogramming, gene editing and organoids generation through the integration of state-of-the-art robotic and bioengineering platforms with a highly multidisciplinary approach. This includes translating, benchmarking and standardizing laboratory protocols into automated workflows, operating in close connection with the Light Imaging and Image Analysis, Genomics, Flow Cytometry and Electrophysiology facilities/support units to realize Human Technopole vision of high-definition biomedicine.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Automation and focus on setting up the genome editing branch of the Facility.

S(he) will have the following main responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage the core functions of the gene editing unit, integrating general needs within Human Technopole and translating them into high quality operations and services;
  • Establish and standardize currently available gene editing technologies (plasmid DNA, mRNA, gRNA and Cas9 RNP) in pluripotent stem cells and cell lines;
  • Test and benchmark new technologies for the automation of the gene editing pipelines;
  • Oversee and assist with experiment validation and problem solving;
  • Design and run gene editing experiments in synergy with other members of the Facility;
  • Develop innovative strategies in genome engineering;
  • Keep detailed records of engineered cell line production and inventory;
  • Supporting the Head of the Facility in setting up the essential resources, participating in key aspects of general facility management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment and materials).

Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally. Human Technopole is looking for a Senior Manager of the Genomics Computation Unit for the Genomics Research Centre – Functional Genomics Programme.

The Davila-Velderrain group of the Neurogenomics Centre at Human Technopole is looking for a Computational Biologist to support our work on computational neurogenomics. We are interested in studying the systems biology of the cells of the human brain. By studying their evolutionary/developmental history and their age-related degeneration, we aim to better understand the origin and neurobiological basis of brain disorders. We combine computational modeling, integrative data analysis, and close collaboration with experimental biologists to explore instances of these general problems.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to support the establishment and maintenance of in-house neurogenomic databases and computational tools. Day-to-day analysis of functional genomics, network biological, and human genetic data is expected. Independent research on methods development and/or integrative analyses would be also encouraged and supported.

Applicants with a computational background and experience or interest in brain biology and disease are encouraged to apply.

Relevant skills in order of relevance:

  • Software engineering experience in R (python and C++ would be advantageous);
  • Experience in scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, Chip/RNA/ATAC-seq, GWAS;
  • Experience in reproducible and collaborative computing (e.g., github, Docker, package generation);
  • Experience in network science, mathematical modeling, and/or machine learning;
  • Experience in scientific visualization and web development (e.g., JavaScript, D3).

Relevant skills in order of relevance:

  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute;
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills;
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who are part of the protected categories list, according to L. 68/99.

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Scientific Computing Support – Structural Biology to help with the implementation and maintenance of software and hardware at the Structural Biology Research Centre (SBRC) and support in setting up and optimising compute pipelines specific to the centre.

After building the core High Performance Computing and Data Storage Infrastructure at HT, the Structural Biology Centre is looking for a team member who will be responsible for the implementation and continued maintenance of the computing infrastructure and software in the department. The candidate will report to Alberto Termanini, Scientific Computing Support Manager, but will be dedicated to the SBRC. The successful candidate will therefore be embedded in the vibrant community of structural biologists.

S(h)e will have the following main responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain services and workflows across the SBRC;
  • Define, set up and maintain a streamlined catalogue of scientific software derived from the requirements of the SBRC scientific community;
  • Ensure data integrity, security and compliance to GDPR regulations;
  • Collaborate with scientists to setup and optimize automatic data collection and analysis on the HPC cluster;
  • Assist in processing of data from the SBRC (Cryo-EM, X-ray, etc.);
  • Consult and train the SBRC community on the use of scientific software, with an emphasis on Structural Biology related software;
  • Update IT colleagues on growing compute trends in Structural Biology and advise on possible solutions.
