About the Position

The Director, Global Accounting & Finance is responsible for leading and managing a wide range of services, including payment processing, accounting policy and procedural advice, cash flow management, audits, and financial statement preparation, and tax filing compliance. The Accounting & Finance team works in partnership with other teams, such as Information Technology and Programs, to provide guidance and support to the various CIVIC field offices around the world. This position will ensure the timely and accurate submission of field office financial transactions for consolidation. The Director, Global Accounting & Finance will work closely with the Senior Director, Finance & Operations and the Senior Management Team and will have comprehensive responsibility for the audit schedules and is expected to work independently/under minimal supervision. This position reports to the Senior Director, Finance & Operations.

Key Functions

  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and hands-on support to the accounting and financial functions and operations of the organization, including monthly financial statement preparation, reconciliation of accounts, general ledger, and budget analysis. Responsible for ensuring a timely and accurate month-end close reporting structure.
  • Ensure best in class practices around compliance and revenue recognition, including establishing operations to support significant growth.
  • Lead and manage the preparation and consolidation of CIVIC’s annual budget; provide regular and timely budget versus actual analysis to the senior leadership; and ensure timely production of financial reports including appropriate liaison with programs.
  • Lead and manage the timely preparation of financial analysis of revenue and profits projections to actuals and budgeted expenses to actuals and provide recommendations to improve results.
  • Lead the periodic analysis of internal operations and the indirect cost recovery structures to identify strategic areas of process enhancement and operational efficiencies across the organization.
  • Influence decision making across the company with objective and data driven financial and strategic frameworks.
  • Partner with programmatic leads to ensure transparency of budgets, planning, and budgets to actual.
  • Identify opportunities to utilize tools and technology to create operational efficiencies.
  • Coordinate with auditors, the Senior Management Team, and the Board of Director to ensure audited financial statements reflect the organization accurately.
  • Review Form 990 draft; prepares a summary for Board review.
  • Partner with financial institutions to ensure the highest quality service and utilization of the latest financial tools and delivery methods to support international operations. 
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws regarding nonprofit operations.
  • Drive continual process improvements and optimize recurring deliverables.
  • Mentor and develop managers, associates, and analysts.
  • Provide thought leadership for the broader finance organization.
  • The position will manage the Senior Manager, Global Finance & Accounting and the Senior Manager, Budget & Analysis.
  • International travel (<10%)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years non-profit full-cycle accounting and finance experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Active Certified Public Accounting license required.
  • Knowledge of working with international NGOs (INGO).
  • Ability to work collaboratively to drive challenging and ambiguous projects.
  • Strong team leader with experience developing high visibility teams and talent.
  • Experience distilling complex analyses into structured frameworks and takeaways.
  • Exceptional quantitative skills with experience developing and designing financial or operating models.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize competing projects and tasks with ease and professionalism.
  • Strong presentation skills and experience working with executive teams and/or Boards
  • Exceptional communication skills – clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English.
  • Must be able to keep CIVIC matters strictly confidential;
  • Capacity to lead and manage with emotional intelligence.
  • Experience in evaluating tools and systems to enhance operational efficiencies.

Currently, CIVIC’s offices in the US and the Netherlands are open under strict adherence to all applicable COVID-19 regulations. CIVIC offers a hybrid work model that offers work from home on 3 days per week.
